4 tips for making friends when you’re new in town

With our busy schedules and more of us working remotely, it’s difficult to find time to meet new people. And let’s be real: it can be awkward even as an adult when you’re the new person. Here are 4 tips for getting to know your neighbors and making friends when you’re new in town.

Don’t be afraid to tell people you’re new

In this practical guide to making friends, Rachel W. Miller says telling people you’re new might be just what they want to hear. “So many breathe a sigh of relief at that statement and confess that they, too, need to make new friends and have been struggling with it,” Miller says.

Find your people

Whether you’re into art, music, yoga, cycling, or some other hobby with a niche following, you can meet people with common interests by attending classes and events that support those hobbies. Furthermore, don’t overlook the internet. Cosmopolitan recommends using apps like Meetup, Friended, and Twitch to vet people for friendships just like we would for dates.

Invite a neighbor to a local event

As noted above, many people will be relieved to know they’re not alone in the search for new friends. Look for local events like a new restaurant opening, convention, or festival and invite someone to go with you. When you live at the Flats at Spring Mill Station, you can attend a variety of great resident events, including Taco Tuesdays and the end-of-summer carnival. Making friends right where you live makes things even easier.

Scope out the common areas of your apartment community

Living in an apartment gives you an instant advantage for meeting potential friends. With a pet park, clubhouse, fitness center, pool, and outdoor grilling and gaming areas, you have plenty of opportunities to strike up a conversation with your neighbors. The most important thing is to be open to making an effort.

The Flats at Spring Mill Station offer community amenities that are ideal for enjoying leisure time with friends. And because these Spring Mill apartments are near plenty of shopping, dining, and entertainment, you and your new friends will have plenty of options. Call (317) 659-6883 to schedule a tour and explore this friendly community today.
